Shoal Bay Retreat Coastline
A Private Therapeutic Retreat

Where Emotional Healing Meets Holistic Well-Being.

Psychological therapy, EMDR, movement, and time in nature—thoughtfully brought together in a private coastal setting.

Sometimes meaningful therapeutic work benefits from having more time and space than a standard weekly appointment allows. Step away from the noise and dedicate several days entirely to your psychological wellbeing.

A Different Way to Engage in Therapy

Most psychological therapy takes place within the rhythm of everyday life. You spend an hour in a clinic, then immediately return to work, family, and the usual pace of life. A therapeutic retreat creates something different.

This is a completely private, individually tailored experience. There is no group program, no forced communal dining, and no expectation to achieve a predetermined outcome. Instead, we create a supportive environment where you can slow down, engage in meaningful therapeutic work, and allow time for your nervous system to process and integrate.

Clinical Therapy, EMDR & SSP

We dedicate 6 hours to deep therapeutic work in a supportive space. We use targeted EMDR and the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) to safely clear neural pathways, process trauma, and support nervous-system regulation.

Physical Output in Nature

Movement sessions tailored to your baseline. Whether it is hiking Mount Tomaree, walking meditation on the coast, or breathwork by the water, we use the raw elements to force you out of your head and back into your body.

Integration & Stillness

Guided meditations, philosophical reflection, and unstructured time to let the work settle. We include a post-retreat integration session to ensure this transformation sustains when you return to your daily life.

The Science & Philosophy

We built this retreat on the understanding that psychological wellbeing is influenced by multiple interconnected aspects of our experience. Explore the specific clinical and philosophical frameworks that guide our intensives.

Who might consider a therapeutic retreat?

Suitability is discussed before booking, and the clinical component is planned according to your individual circumstances. A retreat may be appropriate if you:

  • Are already engaged in therapy and would benefit from dedicated, concentrated time.
  • Would like to undertake EMDR in an intensive format to process trauma or distressing experiences.
  • Feel stuck in patterns you want to understand deeply, without the distractions of your usual environment.
  • Are interested in combining clinical psychology with movement, nature, and philosophical reflection.

To safely dismantle psychological friction and build a resilient baseline, you need a combination of clinical expertise and lived philosophy. We bring both.

Evan Sutter

Evan Sutter

Mindfulness, Movement & Philosophy

Evan is an author, filmmaker, ultra-endurance athlete, and facilitator of conversations about what contributes to a good life. He has spent years exploring mindfulness, psychology, and human flourishing.

His experience includes studying internationally and learning walking meditation at Plum Village, the Buddhist community associated with Zen teacher Thich Nhat Hanh. Evan brings a perspective that complements the clinical work—encouraging curiosity, embodied presence, movement, and reflection rather than prescribing a particular way of living.

The Sanctuary Model

Most wellness retreats force you into shared dorm rooms and mandate communal dining. We stripped all of that away. When you are doing deep therapeutic work, you need your own space to rest.

Your Accommodation

You book your own premium space—whether that is an Airbnb in Fingal Bay, a beachfront hotel in Shoal Bay, or a quiet spot in Nelson Bay. You get complete privacy and a sanctuary to retreat to when our sessions conclude.

Your Fuel

We provide local recommendations for the best whole-foods, but you handle your own meals on your own schedule. No forced group dinners.

The Work & Integration

Your individual therapy takes place in Sam’s private office, ensuring complete security. For the physical output, we step out into the elements along coastal paths and waterways. Crucially, the retreat does not end when you leave Shoal Bay. Time is intentionally provided for continued integration, including a follow-up session with Sam to ensure your therapeutic gains become part of your ongoing life.
